It is said that one of the most striking examples of the unequal distribution of resources in society is food. In many parts of the country, people are forced to go sleep hungry as they can't afford to buy food grains. Especially for children, this hunger can be deadly or have grave consequences.
In the past decade, there has been some success in combating this hunger, but there are still 3 million-plus children that are malnourished in India. Almost The covid 19 pandemic has also acted as a catalyst in increasing the income gap thus depriving thousands of people of access to nutritious food. During the pandemic, while a lot of us were worried about catching the virus thousands of people worried about where their next meal would come from.
At Umang, we are working towards combating this hunger through our various initiatives. In the last year, we have organized various food drives to provide cooked meals to people who don’t get the nutrition they require. We reach out to the homeless, migrants, construction site workers, less privileged children, and everyone in need of food. Since the lockdown, we have distributed more than 1 lakh meals and reached out to thousands of people across Mumbai. We are doing our best to increase this number and reach maximum people and help make their lives a little better. We notice the relief and happiness on their faces while accepting the food packages and that is something that keeps us going. But with every food drive, we do, we realize the amount people out there for whom having access to 3 meals a day is simply impossible and who require our help.
Thus, we encourage maximum people to get involved and support our initiative as small deeds done by you like providing a donation of any amount big or small or volunteering could help make a huge difference in someone else’s life.
